We first got to know this amazing family when Nick returned home from his tour of duty in 2010. It was great to have the opportunity to photograph them more than two years later. Here are a couple of our favourites from their session.

Ben Craven has been making a name for himself as a genius in a new generation of prog rockers. In late 2011 he followed up his debut Two False Idols album with the pretty incredible Great and Terrible Potions. Ben’s music has been described as ‘cinematic rock’, and when you listen you’ll understand why. I find every single one of his songs paints vivid visual images, even before the vocals start. As a photographer, I almost feel compelled to go out and shoot an image for each song just to get some closure. The word ‘epic’ is thrown around for a lot of things now, but you don’t know epic until you’ve heard some of the cinematic soundscapes Ben creates.
I caught up with Ben, Jason and Chad for an afternoon shoot, giving the boys an hour off from rehearsals ahead of upcoming gigs!
Ben is performing with The Section at The Tempo Hotel on Friday 30 November.

One of the benefits of being part of a a theatre group is having the opportunity to shoot charismatic people in unusual settings wearing fantastic costumes. Doing multiple setups on one afternoon is quite a challenge! Early this year we took over the Brisbane Arts Theatre to shoot promotional images for the ImproMafia 2012 season, including headshots for many of the core members. We had about 15 minutes for each setup, with lighting maestro Tim Gawne providing continuous lighting and setting up the cyc for a few shots. Set up, discuss character and theme, set up, shoot… next!
Here are just a few of the images from the 2012 season.
