Nikki, Brett and the girls

We met Nikki a few years ago at Images by Anderson’s first christening. We were so excited when she contacted us for a family session for her husband Brett and her two gorgeous little girls. They were all great, but little miss J in particular was a wonderful little model. Even littler miss S was good too – when you could get her to sit still! I had fun chasing her around the park, and we captured some wonderful images for them to treasure.

Sunrise with Caitie and Luke

Usually my wife Wanda is the brains behind the editing process, but on this occasion we both got take photos and join forces on what turned out to be an absolutely amazing sunrise shoot with the gorgeous Caitie and Luke.

When we arrived, it was completely pitch black, and a little chilly. Caitie was an absolute trooper – she stood in the water, in the dark, waves rushing around her… changed outfits… climbed up sand hills… clambered through the overgrowth… all while eight months pregnant! She had so much energy and enthusiasm. Luke and Caitie were a really cool couple; it was great to see the love they share and the excitement they have for their soon-to-be family.

Caitie and Luke are expecting their new arrival any time now, and we wish them all the best for their big day! Thanks for an awesome shoot.

Each year, the best improvisers from around Australia gather for the Theatresports National Championships. In 2011, Brisbane is hosting the Nationals as part of the Off the Cuff Festival of Improvised Theatre, from Thursday 29 September through Saturday 1 October. Tickets are available from the Powerhouse website.

Amy, Dan and Tom are representing Queensland in the 2011 Nationals. I hung out with them for some promotional pictures in one of my favourite photo niches in Fortitude Valley. I love working with actors – give them a character or an emotion and they know how to pose for it, and when you ask them to, they bring the cheese.

All three nights of Off the Cuff will be brilliant, with evenings featuring shows from around the country as well as some of Brisbane’s most popular improvised shows (including Agatha Holmes). Who knows – you might even see me there.

Agatha Holmes

The very clever improvisers of ImproMafia recently delivered a season of Agatha Holmes at the Brisbane Arts Theatre. It’s not very often one gets the chance to take pictures of a manic drug-addled detective, a salty sea captain, a silver-screen siren, and a French conwoman masquerading as Russian royalty… all in costume and on set!

Foggy field

A few weeks ago, we had a very busy photography weekend, meeting with three clients for maternity and newborn shoots. I think the camera was fused to my hand!

As if three shoots weren’t enough, I suggested to my daughter one evening that we get up really early the next day, wander over to a nearby field, and take some pictures before the fog lifted. Sure enough, she woke me up the next morning, dressed, excited and ready to go! She’s definitely not camera-shy, and was willing to tromp through damp grass to get some nice pictures. What a trooper!

As much as I love visiting and getting to know clients, I really enjoy capturing nice pictures of our family. We don’t usually share them on the blog, but I love these, and I hope you do too.

Thom at the Powerhouse

Thomas Larkin is a talented Melbourne-based actor. Hailing from Brisbane originally, Thom is back home to perform in La Boite’s Julius Caesar until March 20.

I was keen for another shoot with my friend and photographer buddy Al Caeiro; we haven’t shot together since Dani’s shoot last year. It’s always fun doing a shoot with Al – even if this one started an hour before dawn! Al is an accomplished theatre photographer; you can see some of her recent work in La Boite’s Julius Caesar Production Gallery.

Thom was lots of fun, and the three of us built some lovely shots. I’m really pleased with what we got – and now I’m keen to do more pre-dawn shoots!

And, yes, those are his pants.

Thom will be back in Brisbane later this year, performing in Queensland Theatre Company’s touring production of Treasure Island.

Kylie at Teneriffe

Here are some of my favourites from a session with the lovely Kylie. She was a great model, willing to change in to numerous outfits so we could experiment with different looks. And she has a great variety of funky hats! I enjoyed working with natural light as we wandered around Teneriffe and some industrial areas in Fortitude Valley.
